It appears Studio Trigger keeps rolling and rolling. They became our favorite studio after Madhouse fell off quite a bit and loosed its hold on the industry. We recently celebrated Studio Trigger’s 10th Anniversary. Trigger goes through changes and changes but remains one of the top animation studios. They produce their content and work on shows brought to them. Otakon 2022 will welcome a big part of Studio Trigger to the convention, and we can’t wait to sit with them.
Entering the fray of the con is Producer Hiromi Wakabayashi and Director Yoh Yoshinari. Both are no strangers to each other at work at Studio Trigger, and both are very accomplished and skilled creatives.
Wakabayashi-san, previously a member of Studio GAINAX, has been involved in several works with Hiroyuki Imaishi, notable co-founder of Trigger. Most notably, GURREN LAGANN as design production. Wakabayashi-san also contributed to Panty&Stocking with Garterbelt as co-creator, writer, and episodic director. After making transitions to Studio TRIGGER, Wakabayashi-san has been actively involved in the production of KILL la KILL, Space Patrol Luluco, and PROMARE as creative director and music producer. He has also filled in roles as script and art director for STAR WARS: VISIONS “THE TWINS.”
Yoshinari-san Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1971, Yoshinari is a renowned animation director, illustrator, and character designer. Making a debut at Gainax, Yoshinari is currently one of the key figures at Studio TRIGGER. As an animator, Yoshinari has taken part in numerous notable titles such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and FLCL. For GURREN LAGANN, he was responsible for the mechanical designs. He has even filled the role of concept designs for titles such as Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and KILL la KILL. Since he transitioned to Studio TRIGGER, Yoshinari has directed two titles, Little Witch Academia and BNA(Brand New Animal).
Just announced earlier this month at Anime Expo, by Trigger a second season of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Both of our creatives have worked on the initial first season. It would only make sense for both of them to be on the project working together once again.
Now, both gentlemen will be working on the latest Studio Trigger project the Cyberpunk anime. Wakabayashi-san is participating in the production as creative support for TRIGGER’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Yoshinari-san will design the main characters. So we have a lot that we want to talk about with them.
