Last-Minute Video Game Holiday Deals.

Although 2021 was a lackluster year for some in terms of software, 2022 is undoubtedly looking far brighter in terms of output. We have arguably the most ambitious entry in the Kirby franchise, Sonic Frontiers, River City Girls 2, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, and (at long last) Freedom Planet 2 to look forward to, among many others. That being said, there are still some quality deals around the corner worth checking out.

Steam is known for its killer seasonal sales, and its annual Winter extravaganza is set to kick off this week on December 22. You’ll want to watch this one like a hawk as, unlike some of the platform’s other sales, games will be rotated in and out each day until the sale’s end date of January 5, 2022. Although the featured games are under wraps, there are sure to be some quality titles and discounts surpassing the 50 percent mark given Valve‘s track record.

Sony will be launching its holiday sale on the same day, and unlike Steam’s sale, we already know a smattering of titles that will be seeing price cuts. According to PS Blog, Ghost of TsushimaMonster Hunter World: Iceborne Digital DeluxeCrash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and Spyro Reignited will be the heavy hitters seeing discounts on the PS Store.

RPG fans will be pleased to know that Square is slashing prices on not only the Switch but 3DS as well this season. Several Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy titles have seen cuts as high as 50% off. (Balan Wonderland is also half off for those with a morbid sense of curiosity following its disastrous launch earlier this year.)

Capcom’s holiday sale is also underway on Switch, and there’s quite a bit on tap for Resident Evil and Megaman fans. All of the Megaman Legacy Collections (save for the first) have been discounted, as well as the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up bundle. In addition, Okami HD, a beautifully presented adventure RPG that initially debuted on the PS2, has also seen its price cut in half on the platform.
