While the arcade scene in North America fizzled out in the late 90’s thanks to advancements on both the home console and PC front, it has continued to live on in Japan to this day. With Sega toying with the concept of using arcade units as streaming centers and the number of centers still active. The country is still left with plenty of life in a business model that’s now over half a century old on the other side of the world. Fortunately, you won’t have to cross an ocean or deal with importing to experience the latest Mobile Suit Gundam arcade game to come from the land of the rising sun. (Nor will you have to wait very long!)
Coming July 30 to PS4, Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Maxi Boost On is a port of the popular arcade game released back in 2016 as a Japanese exclusive. It was a sequel in the long-running Extreme VS series, which focuses on team-based arena combat with a few added rules.
In addition to simply trying to wreck your opponents’ mechs, you’ll need to keep an eye on your resource points as they deplete when you lose one of your own. Once you run out of resource points- you lose. Maxi Boost On added two new mechanics to the formula. “Extreme Action” allows you to dash-cancel incoming attacks and whip up lengthier and more destructive combos on your adversaries. “Extreme Burst”s serve as the game’s special attacks, which require you to fill a bar at the bottom of the screen before unleashing.
If you cannot wait to get in on the action- there’s some good news. One of Maxi Boost On’s pre-order incentives is the ability to play an online demo during several upcoming open-access periods. Some players have been struggling to find the game on their console’s storefront, so here’s the link to the game’s page through the web version of the PS Store in case you’re interested. You’ll also want to make sure you have PS Plus in order to compete with others online before (and after) the game’s official release.
