Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie Event

Yo-Kai Watch is a Japanese anime that has been dubbed over in America. It currently airs on Disney XD and is on the way to its 3rd season. The show is about a kid named Nate that frees a Yo-Kai or spirit. In turn the Yo-Kai befriends him and gives him the Yo-Kai watch; which gives the wearer the ability to see, summon, contact, and power up Yo-Kai. There are good and bad Yo-Kai and so it leads Nate into situations between our world and a parallel dimension. October 15th Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie Event was released in English dub nationwide in America.

Yo-Kai Watch is directed, produced, and written by Mark Risley. Risley specializes in animated film and television. He’s known to have worked on such shows as: The Wild Thornberrys, Rocket Power, Rugrats, and As Told by Ginger. Risley won a Daytime Emmy for Rugrats (2003) and a Genesis Award for The Wild Thornberrys (2001). Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie is produced by Sprite Animation Studios and distributed by Eleven Arts. Mark Risley directs the movie, both he and Franklin Young are the writers. Fathom Events hosts the movie in multiple theaters around the nation.

The English dub voice acting is stellar for this film. Johnny Yong Bosch reprises his role as our main character, Nate. Bosch is one of the top names in the voice acting industry, especially anime. His recent roles consist of: Digimon Adventure Tri. (T.K.), Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (Orga Itsuka), and Sailor Moon Crystal (Artemis). Bosch is followed by the other voice actors of this film: Joey D’Auria (Whisper), Meyer Deleeuw (Nathaniel Adams), and Alicyn Packard (Jibanyan).


The movie begins with Nate leaving school with his friends. While walking and talking, the subject of Yo-Kai comes up and Nate has no clue on the matter. Then as viewers watch on they notice Nate doesn’t even have the Yo-Kai watch on. What is going on with Nate? Where is Whisper? Why are objects around town growing astronomically? We’re sucked into a wild comedic ride of the world of Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie.
